Brazilian FAQs

Will it hurt?

Well, yes - but it goes away in seconds! We prep the skin by cleansing and applying an organic oil to soften the skin. Next, we use high-quality hypoallergenic wax and advanced techniques to minimize pain. Lastly, we follow-up with a cooling gel to reduce any stinging and prevent break-outs. Get ready for excitement and relief that the service wasn't as bad as you thought!

What can I do to make it hurt less?

Try to stay calm! We engage you in conversation to distract you from what we're doing (and to get to know you, first and foremost). Deep breaths, chewing gum, and going to your "happy place" in your mind helps. You may take ibuprofen before but we suggest not drinking alcohol (it doesn't help, we promise).

Numbing cream can be applied but it's kind of a hassle because it typically needs to be applied 20-30 minutes prior to treatment. If you choose to use numbing cream, please arrive early to your appointment in order to remove it in the restroom. Any residue left over can make it more difficult for the wax to remove the hair.

How long does the hair have to be?

Hair should be at least 1/4 inch long. That means no shaving for at least 3 weeks (which is the hardest part). Don't worry about it being too long - if it is we will trim!

How often do I have to get waxed?

At first, it is recommended that your treatments are done every 3 weeks for 3 sessions to get the hair on the same growth pattern. After that, every 4-6 weeks will be perfect to maintain your smooth skin.

How long before the hair starts to grow back?

Once the hair is on the same growth pattern, you can get up to 2 weeks with no hair! When it does start to grow back, it comes in soft and sparse. In another  2 weeks, those hairs are long enough to be waxed again.

How long will the wax appointment take?

We allow 30 minutes for first-time clients to get comfortable but the actual waxing time is around 15 minutes. Existing Brazilian clients are in-and-out in 15 minutes with around 10 minutes waxing time. We pride ourselves in being fast yet very thorough.

How soon can I have sex?

This question comes up a lot! Ideally, it's best to sustain from any physical activity for 24 hours that could cause you to sweat. Freshly opened hair follicles are prone to irritation/infection if sweat gets in the pore. For first-time clients, the skin can be a bit sensitive for a day after the wax as well.

What maintenance should I be doing at home?

As a first-time Brazilian client, you will receive a "goodie" bag with a sample of PFB Ingrown Serum. This is to be used every day after the shower. You will also receive an exfoliating glove to use in the shower 2 to 3 times a week. It is important to use a body wash without coconut oil in it. Although it is great on other parts of the body, coconut oil is known to clog pores! We suggest using Vagisil PH Balance feminine wash for the pubic region. Having a consistent at-home exfoliation regimen will greatly reduce the occurrence of breakouts.

Lash Extension FAQs

I don't know which type of extensions I want! Will I get the opportunity to discuss my options?

Of course! We built time for a thorough consultation into the service. Together, after you arrive and get settled, we will discuss the perfect lash look for you!

I have never had extensions before! What can I do to prep for my full set?

The only thing required of you is to show up for your appointment with no makeup on! If makeup is present, it is extremely difficult to thoroughly clean your lashes before the application process. Without a clean start, there is a high chance your extensions will not retain well.

How are the extensions attached to my eye?

We dip the extension into an adhesive that is safe for the eye area and attach it to your natural eyelash about 1 mm away from your skin. Eyelash extensions are NEVER attached to the skin on your eyelid (this is how reactions happen).

Is the process painful?

Absolutely not! In fact, most clients fall asleep during the application process! After securing your lower lashes down with eye pads, your eyes will be shut the entire service. You are more than welcome to bring headphones and turn on your favorite playlist or podcast.

I wear contact lenses. Will I need to remove them for my appointment?

This is a personal preference but it is usually recommended to remove them before the service starts. You can put your contact lenses back in once the service is complete!

I have heard that extensions are difficult to care for. Is this true?

On the contrary, they are quite easy to care for! You should not get them wet for 24 hours after your service to allow the adhesive to fully cure. Beyond that, make sure you clean them with an oil-free cleanser a few times a week to remove any natural buildup and dead skin from your lash line.

Will extensions damage my natural eyelashes?

No! Here at The JOY of WAX, we make sure to measure your natural lashes during your consultation and never put an extension on that is too long or too heavy.

I noticed some of my extensions falling out. Is that normal?

Yes! On average, you can shed up to 8 natural lashes per day. This is why we recommend fills every 2-3 weeks! The shedding process will be more noticeable now that an extension is attached to it
